Public Discussion Series #5: The Activity of Collectivity

This event is organized in conjunction with Collective Show, Los Angeles, a collaboratively curated "group show of group shows" with over 20 artist-run organizations, collectives, and independent initiatives in Chinatown January 20-30th.
Public Discussion #6: On Text as Material and Printed Matters

at Outpost for Contemporary Art
In conjunction with the launch of Dispatches and Directions, ART2102 has invited some of the most interesting artists and organizers in Los Angeles to engage each other in discussion on a variety of topics relevant to their work.
Our sixth and final will conversation will take place during the launch of "Re-Opening": MINING THE ARCHIVE by MATERIAL Press. For this new project, MATERIAL will engage with Outpost for Contemporary Art's archive of journals, pulling articles, ads and reviews to create a new journal entitled, “Re-Opening”. The event on Sunday, January 30 will begin at 1PM with a reading and slide projections of the journal and will continue with a discussion on artist-run journals and art publications.

Outside In: Artist-Run Collaboratives and Commercial Spaces

at Art Los Angeles Contemporary
Critic and curator Catherine Taft moderates a discussion on artist run collaboratives and commercial spaces. The discussion investigates the means by which artists-run spaces and collectives enter the commerical art system. Comprised of artists, curators and writers actively involved with collectives in LA, New York, and Berlin, the panel will unravel the complexities of how collaborative practice is situated 'inside' or 'outside' the commercial system.
